A practical guide to creating a balanced October movement routine with strength training, Pilates, walking, yoga, recovery, and consistency.
What if getting serious about your fitness journey didn’t mean working out harder every single day, but simply becoming more consistent with the woman you already know you want to become?
I’ve been trying to get a lot more serious about my workouts, and I think August was when I finally started taking my fitness goals seriously. After doing the same workouts sporadically for months, I realized that if I wanted to actually change my body, I needed to be more intentional about what I was doing. Instead of randomly working out whenever I felt motivated, I decided that each month I would have specific areas to focus on and a more structured routine to follow.
August ended up being my most productive month. I was working out consistently, feeling stronger, and starting to notice changes in my body. I felt good, I looked good, and I was finally feeling like I was building momentum.
Then came September.
My birthday month was full of everything I love: desserts, wine, restaurants, a yacht trip, and a beautiful Whistler chalet getaway. I had an amazing time, but my workout routine completely fell apart. I probably worked out only once or twice a week, and by the end of the month, I could feel that my body wasn’t moving or feeling the way it had in August.
And honestly, I’m not mad about it.
I don’t believe in missing out on life just because you have fitness goals. I wanted to celebrate my birthday, enjoy my trips, eat good food, drink wine, and make memories. Those experiences were worth it.
But September also reminded me of something important: I genuinely feel better when I take care of my body consistently.
So now it’s October, and I’m ready to get serious again.
I have workouts planned throughout the week, Sunday is my rest day, and my goal is to work out 3–6 times a week. I also have another trip planned this month, so I know there will still be distractions and busy days. The difference is that I don’t want one trip, one dinner, or one busy week to completely derail my routine.
I want to enjoy my life and take care of myself.
That is the energy I’m bringing into October.

What’s in This Guide
My October movement routine is centred around building strength while keeping movement enjoyable and sustainable.
This month, I’m focusing on:
- Weight training to build strength and definition
- Pilates for core strength and body awareness
- Walking for movement, endurance, and mental clarity
- Yoga for mobility and connection
- Stretching to support recovery
- Rest days so my body has time to recharge
- Consistency instead of perfection
I’m not trying to do everything every day. I simply want to create a routine that helps me keep moving towards my goals without making fitness feel like a punishment.
Weight Training: My Main Focus
Weight training is the foundation of my October routine.
I love the feeling of getting stronger. There is something so empowering about realizing that a weight that once felt difficult is becoming easier, or that I can complete an exercise with better form than I could a few months ago.
For October, I want to focus on building my:
- Glutes
- Legs
- Back
- Shoulders
- Arms
- Core
And yes, I have some very specific aesthetic goals.
I want a bigger butt, toned arms, a flatter stomach, and a more defined back.
Those goals are important to me, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to change the way your body looks. The important part is how you approach those goals.
I don’t want to hate my body into changing.
I want to train it, nourish it, challenge it, and take care of it.
That’s a very different energy.
If you’re building your own home workout space, a good set of dumbbells is one of those investments that makes strength training feel a little more effortless — and I love having weights at home so I can get my workout in without needing to leave the house.
What I’m Focusing On During Strength Workouts
Instead of obsessing over how many calories I’m burning, I’m paying more attention to things that will actually help me progress:
- Increasing weight gradually when I’m ready
- Using proper form
- Challenging my muscles
- Getting enough recovery
- Staying consistent
- Paying attention to how my body feels
A workout doesn’t have to leave me completely exhausted to count.
Sometimes the best workout is the one where I focused, challenged myself, and walked away feeling stronger.

Pilates: Strength Without the Heavy Lifting
Pilates brings a completely different energy into my routine.
The movements are controlled and intentional, and I have to really focus on my core, posture, alignment, and the muscles I’m using. It can look gentle, but anyone who has done a challenging Pilates workout knows that those small movements can burn.
I love using Pilates as a complement to weight training because it gives my body another way to build strength.
It also reminds me to slow down.
Instead of rushing through every repetition, I can actually feel what I’m doing.
That mind-body connection matters to me.
Having a comfortable mat makes those Pilates, core, stretching, and floor-work sessions feel much more inviting — because creating a workout space you actually enjoy using is part of romanticizing your fitness routine, too.

Walking: Simple Movement Still Counts
Walking is another part of my October routine that I don’t want to overlook.
Some days I’ll walk outside and enjoy the autumn weather. Other days I’ll get on my treadmill and listen to music, a podcast, or simply let my thoughts wander.
Walking gives me movement without making everything feel like a workout.
It can also be a mental reset.
If I’m feeling overwhelmed, distracted, or stuck in my head, getting up and walking can completely change my energy.
And let’s remember:
Walking counts.
It doesn’t have to be intense to be valuable.

Yoga & Stretching: The Softer Side of Fitness
I want my October routine to include strength, but I also want softness.
That’s where yoga and stretching come in.
Yoga gives me the opportunity to slow down, breathe, work on mobility, and reconnect with my body. It feels completely different from lifting weights, and I like having that contrast throughout the week.
Stretching is another simple way I can take care of my body.
I’ll be incorporating:
- Short stretches after workouts
- Mobility-focused sessions
- Gentle yoga
- Longer stretching when my body feels tight
- Restorative movement when I need something slower
I’m not trying to turn flexibility into another thing I have to be perfect at.
I’m simply giving my body some attention.

The Lesson September Taught Me About Consistency
September showed me how quickly a routine can disappear when life gets busy.
One celebration turns into another. Then there’s a trip. Then a dinner. Then you’re tired from travelling. Suddenly, a week becomes two, and your workouts are barely happening.
I’ve been there.
But I don’t think the answer is to become extremely strict and stop enjoying life. I don’t want to miss birthdays, vacations, dinners, wine, or spontaneous experiences because I’m afraid of getting off track.
Instead, I want to learn how to stay connected to my routine even when life isn’t perfectly structured.
That might mean doing a shorter workout.
It might mean going for a walk.
It might mean doing Pilates in a Airbnb.
Or it might simply mean getting home from a trip and returning to my normal routine instead of waiting for the “perfect” Monday.
Consistency isn’t about never falling off. It’s about knowing how to come back.
My October Workout Goals
My overall goal is to work out 3–6 times a week.
I don’t need every week to look exactly the same, but I want to keep movement as a regular part of my lifestyle.
My priorities are:
Build strength.
Especially through my glutes, legs, back, shoulders, arms, and core.
Create definition.
I’m working towards the body composition I want through consistent strength training and overall movement.
Improve consistency.
I want to stop letting one busy week turn into an entire month away from my routine.
Enjoy movement.
Fitness shouldn’t feel like something I dread.
Give myself recovery.
Rest is part of the process, not a sign that I’m being lazy.

Recovery Is Part of Becoming Stronger
This is something I want to keep reminding myself throughout October.
Rest is not falling off.
Your body needs recovery to adapt to your workouts. If you’re constantly pushing without giving yourself enough time to recover, you’re not necessarily going to make better progress.
For me, recovery can look like:
- Taking Sunday completely off
- Getting enough sleep
- Stretching
- Going for an easy walk
- Taking a slower day
- Eating nourishing meals
- Listening to my body when I’m genuinely tired
There is a difference between making excuses and knowing when your body needs rest.
I’m learning to recognize that difference.
On the days when my muscles are feeling extra loved after strength training, a foam roller is another simple tool I like having around for mobility and recovery.
My October Fitness Mindset
This month, I want to move from a place of self-respect instead of self-punishment.
I don’t need to work out because I ate dessert.
I don’t need to earn my dinner.
I don’t need to punish myself after a vacation.
And I don’t need to feel guilty for enjoying my life.
Instead, I want to think:
I move because I value my body.
I strength train because I want to become stronger.
I walk because movement clears my mind.
I stretch because my body deserves care.
I rest because recovery matters.
That feels much more aligned with the woman I’m becoming.

Your October Movement Check-In
Before you create your own October fitness routine, take a moment to check in with yourself:
- What type of movement makes me feel strongest and most connected to my body?
- Where can I choose consistency instead of expecting perfection?
- What does my body need more of this month — strength, movement, mobility, or recovery?
You don’t need to completely overhaul your routine overnight. Choose a few forms of movement that you genuinely enjoy, create a realistic schedule, and give yourself permission to adjust when life happens.
Choose Your Energy: A or B
A: I need to work out harder, burn more calories, and never miss a workout if I want to change my body.
B: I can challenge myself, enjoy movement, stay consistent, and respect my body’s need for recovery.
I’m choosing B.
Because I want results, but I don’t want to become obsessed with getting them.
I want to feel strong.
I want to feel confident.
I want to enjoy my body.
And I want fitness to become something that supports my lifestyle instead of taking over my life.
Track Your October Movement
If you’re also ready to make October the month you get more intentional with your fitness, my October: Becoming Stronger Fitness Tracker can help you stay organized and accountable.
Use it to track your workouts, movement, recovery, and progress throughout the month while keeping your focus on consistency rather than perfection.
Because you don’t need a perfect month to make progress.
You just need to keep showing up for yourself.

Final Thoughts
September was a fun month, and I wouldn’t take back the experiences I had just to say I never missed a workout.
But it also reminded me that I really do feel better when I’m consistent.
I like feeling strong. I like seeing my body change. I like having energy. I like knowing that I’m keeping promises to myself.
So October is about finding that balance again.
I have another trip coming up, and I’m sure there will be busy days, dinners, unexpected plans, and moments when working out isn’t the easiest thing to fit in. I’m not expecting perfection this time.
I’m expecting myself to come back.
My goals are simple: a bigger butt, toned arms, a flatter stomach, and a defined back. I know I can achieve them, but I also know that they won’t happen because of one perfect workout or one perfect week.
They’ll happen because I keep showing up.
Through consistency comes progress.
This October, I’m not moving because I hate my body.
I’m moving because I want to become stronger, healthier, more confident, and more connected to myself.
I’m moving like the woman I’m becoming.
Until next time… keep becoming the grounded, glowing you. ✨
