Strength, Grace & Confidence: My Movement Routine

Strength, Grace & Confidence: My Movement Routine

Discover how to build a balanced workout routine with weight training, Pilates, walking, and yoga to support strength, flexibility, and overall well-being.

What do you do when life gets busy, your routines fall apart, and the goals you set for yourself start getting pushed to the side? You give yourself grace, get grounded, and begin again.

The beginning of October has been busier than I expected, and my workouts haven’t received as much attention as I wanted them to. Instead of beating myself up about it, I’ve been focusing on what I needed most: getting my home organized, creating a space that feels good to live in, and finally letting myself settle into this chapter of my life.

I’ve moved a lot over the years, and I’ve realized that I spent so much time treating every place I lived as temporary. Now that I’ve officially passed the one-year mark of living in my current home, I’m ready to shift that mindset. I’m not waiting for some miracle to change my life. I’m building the life I want right now, one intentional decision at a time.

With a trip to Vancouver coming up in exactly one week, I’m ready to bring my attention back to my fitness goals. I want to feel strong, confident, energized, and comfortable in my body, and I know how much better I feel mentally and physically when movement is part of my routine.

So, let’s get back into it.

For me, fitness isn’t about punishing my body or forcing myself through workouts every single day. It’s about finding a balance between strength, grace, and consistency while creating a lifestyle that supports the woman I’m becoming.

How to Build a Balanced Workout Routine That Works for You

1. Reset Your Mindset Before Resetting Your Routine

Before getting back into your workouts, I think it’s important to look at the mindset you’re bringing into your fitness journey.

It’s easy to feel like you’ve fallen behind when you miss several workouts. You might start telling yourself that you’ve lost your progress or that you need to work twice as hard to make up for the time you missed.

But that’s not how I want to approach fitness anymore.

Missing a few workouts doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means life happened, and now you have an opportunity to begin again.

Sometimes other priorities need your attention. Your home might need organizing, work might become overwhelming, or you might simply need a little more rest. You can acknowledge those needs without abandoning your goals altogether.

Here are a few ways to reset your mindset:

  • Release the guilt. You don’t need to punish yourself for missing a workout.
  • Focus on your next step. Instead of worrying about last week, decide what you can do today.
  • Start with realistic expectations. You don’t need to jump straight into an intense schedule to rebuild consistency.
  • Remember your reasons. Think about how movement makes you feel, beyond physical appearance or a number on the scale.

I find that when I stop treating consistency as perfection, it’s much easier to return to my routine without feeling overwhelmed.

Your goals are still there. You can simply pick them back up.

2. Weight Training: Build Strength and Confidence

Weight training is one of my favourite ways to feel strong and capable. There’s something empowering about challenging yourself, improving your form, and gradually discovering what your body can do.

Resistance training challenges your muscles, helping build strength and, with consistent training and appropriate nutrition, supporting muscle growth. It can also make everyday activities, from carrying groceries to moving furniture, feel easier.

For my own fitness goals, I enjoy incorporating dumbbell exercises that target different muscle groups. Squats, deadlifts, shoulder presses, and lunges are all useful movements to build a well-rounded strength routine.

You don’t need to lift the heaviest weights in the room to make progress, either. Improving your technique, controlling each repetition, and gradually increasing resistance when you’re ready are all meaningful ways to develop strength.

My spiritual baddie approach? Build a strong body without making your body the enemy.

I want to feel confident in my strength and proud of the effort I’m putting in. That means challenging myself while respecting my limits and allowing time for recovery.

If you’re creating your own home workout space, a set of dumbbells is a practical investment that lets you build strength at your own pace and make your workouts feel intentional.

3. Pilates: Improve Core Control and Body Awareness

Pilates brings a different kind of challenge to my movement routine. While weight training encourages me to focus on strength, Pilates invites me to slow down and pay attention to how I’m moving.

Many Pilates exercises emphasize core stability, posture, breathing, alignment, and controlled movement. Depending on the exercises you choose, Pilates can help develop muscular endurance, balance, and body awareness.

I also love having it as an option for days when I want to move without doing another heavy strength workout.

You can incorporate Pilates through a class, an online session, or a short home workout. Start with exercises that match your experience level, focus on proper technique, and build gradually.

What I appreciate most is the reminder that movement doesn’t always need to be fast or intense to challenge you.

Sometimes, slowing down and being intentional is exactly what your body needs.

Resistance bands are another great addition to a home workout routine because they offer different levels of resistance without taking up much space, making it easier to bring a little extra intention to your movement practice.

4. Walking: Make Movement Part of Everyday Life

Walking is one of the simplest ways to add more movement to your day, and it’s something I don’t want to overlook when rebuilding my routine.

You don’t always need a structured workout to be active. A walk outside, a session on the treadmill, or a little movement between tasks can help you spend less time sitting and more time moving.

Regular walking also contributes to cardiovascular health and can support mood and general well-being. The amount and intensity that work for you will depend on your fitness level, schedule, and goals.

I like that walking gives me flexibility. If I don’t have time for a longer workout, I can still fit in a short walk. If I need to clear my head, I can step outside and let myself reset.

And here’s your reminder: every walk doesn’t need to become a personal challenge.

You don’t need to track every step or turn every movement into a calorie-burning opportunity. Sometimes, you can simply enjoy being outside and appreciate what your body allows you to do.

A comfortable pair of walking shoes makes it easier to turn everyday movement into a habit, whether you’re heading out for fresh air, exploring somewhere new, or taking a little time to clear your mind.

5. Yoga: Reconnect With Your Body and Mind

Yoga brings the softer, more grounding side of fitness into my life.

Between strength workouts, busy days, and personal goals, it’s easy to get caught up in doing more. Yoga encourages me to pause, connect with my breath, and pay attention to how I feel.

Depending on the style and practice, yoga can support flexibility, balance, mobility, and relaxation. It can also create an opportunity to slow down and become more aware of physical tension and breathing patterns.

I love that yoga doesn’t have to be complicated. A short session of gentle stretching and mindful movement can be a beautiful addition to a busy day.

For me, it’s a reminder that taking care of my body isn’t only about building muscle or working toward a particular appearance. It’s also about creating space to feel grounded and connected to myself.

Strength and softness can exist together. You can challenge your body in one workout and give yourself permission to slow down in the next.

I love the idea of having a dedicated space to reconnect with yourself, and a comfortable, non-slip yoga mat is a simple essential for everything from mindful stretching to a grounding yoga flow.

6. Why I Combine Different Types of Movement

I don’t want to feel restricted to one type of exercise. Each form of movement brings something different to my routine, and together they help me work towards a more balanced approach to fitness.

  • Weight training: Builds muscular strength and supports muscle development.
  • Pilates: Emphasizes core control, alignment, and controlled movement.
  • Walking: Adds accessible everyday activity and supports cardiovascular health.
  • Yoga: Offers opportunities to develop flexibility, balance, and body awareness.

Combining different activities can help you work on different aspects of fitness, keep your routine interesting, and make movement more enjoyable.

You don’t have to do all four every day. You can prioritize strength training, include walking throughout the week, and use Pilates or yoga when they fit your goals and energy levels.

The best routine is one you can maintain while giving your body enough time to recover.

How I’m Approaching My October Workouts

Now that I’ve brought more order into my living space, I’m ready to give my workouts the attention they’ve been missing.

My October workout plan gives me structure, which is helpful when I want to stay accountable without spending time figuring out what to do each day. I’m starting with Monday’s scheduled workout and focusing on following through one session at a time.

With Vancouver coming up in a week, I’m feeling motivated to be consistent. Of course, I’d love to feel my best before the trip, but I also know that meaningful fitness progress takes time. I’m not expecting a week of workouts to transform my body overnight.

My goal is to feel stronger, get my energy back, and reconnect with a routine that makes me feel good.

And if life gets busy again, I’ll adjust rather than give up.

If you’re looking for a little structure to help you stay consistent with your own fitness goals, I’ve created my October Becoming Stronger Workout Plan to help you move with intention throughout the month. It’s designed to bring more focus to your strength training routine while helping you build healthy habits, feel stronger, and stay accountable to yourself. Think of it as your reminder to show up for the woman you’re becoming, one workout at a time.

7. How to Get Back Into a Workout Routine After a Busy Week

If you’ve also been struggling to stay consistent, here’s how you can ease back into movement without making your schedule feel overwhelming.

Start with your next workout. Don’t wait for Monday, next month, or the perfect moment. Choose a manageable session and begin where you are.

Plan your workouts in advance. Decide which days you’ll prioritize strength training, walking, Pilates, or yoga. Having a plan reduces decision fatigue, but leave room for adjustments.

Prepare your space. A tidy workout area, accessible dumbbells, and comfortable clothing can make it easier to get started. Sometimes, removing a little friction makes a big difference.

Set goals beyond appearance. You might want to improve your strength, feel more energetic, develop better mobility, or build a routine that supports your mental well-being.

Make recovery part of the plan. Rest days, adequate sleep, and appropriate nutrition support your ability to recover and keep showing up.

Celebrate consistency, not perfection. One workout is a start. A short walk counts as movement. A lighter session can be appropriate when your energy is lower. You don’t have to do everything perfectly to keep moving forward.

A Personal Reminder: Your Environment Matters, Too

One thing I’ve noticed recently is how much my environment affects my ability to focus.

The beginning of October became less about workouts and more about deep-cleaning and reorganizing my home. My living area was a mess while I worked through everything, and I found it difficult to focus on exercise when my surroundings felt unsettled.

But as I started getting things under control, I could feel myself becoming more ready to return to my routines.

I’ve also realized that I don’t want to keep treating my home as though I’m only passing through. After moving so many times, reaching the one-year mark and beyond in the same place has made me think differently about how I want to live.

I want to create an environment that supports my goals rather than constantly waiting for something outside of me to change.

That applies to fitness, too. I don’t need to wait for a completely organized home, a quieter schedule, or a new chapter to begin taking care of myself. I can make progress while life is still unfolding.

Sometimes, creating a little more order around you can help you make room for the habits you want to nurture.

Your Movement Check-In

Take a moment to reflect honestly:

  1. Which type of movement makes me feel the strongest, most confident, or most connected to myself?
  2. What is one realistic step I can take this week to make movement a priority?
  3. How would my relationship with exercise change if I focused on caring for my body rather than punishing or changing it?

Choose Your Energy: A or B

A: I’ve missed workouts, so I’ve fallen behind and need to make up for lost time.

B: Every day is an opportunity to begin again, and I can rebuild my routine one workout at a time.

I’m choosing B. I want to approach fitness with intention, self-respect, and consistency instead of guilt.

I can work towards my goals while giving myself grace. I can challenge myself without exhausting myself. And I can take care of my body without making exercise feel like another obligation.

Final Thoughts

As I move through October, I’m reminding myself that getting back on track doesn’t require a complete life reset. Sometimes, it simply means recognizing what needs your attention, making a few adjustments, and deciding what you want to prioritize next.

I’ve spent so much time moving from place to place that I’m finally learning what it means to settle in, create a home, and build a life in the present instead of treating everything as temporary. Now that my living space is starting to feel more organized, I’m ready to bring that same intention back into my fitness routine.

I’m not waiting for a miracle to change my life. I’m creating change through the choices I make every day, whether that’s organizing my home, following my October workout plan, or taking time to move my body.

And with my Vancouver trip just around the corner, I’m excited to give myself this week to reconnect with my goals and feel my best.

But beyond this week, I want movement to remain a part of the life I’m building. I want weight training to make me stronger, Pilates to help me move with control, walking to keep me active, and yoga to remind me to slow down and reconnect with myself.

I don’t need every day to be perfect. I just need to keep showing up in ways that support the woman I’m becoming.

Because this journey isn’t about punishing myself into becoming someone new. It’s about taking care of the woman I already am while continuing to grow.

Strong body. Grounded mind. Powerful energy.

That’s the energy I’m bringing into the rest of October, and if you’ve fallen out of your routine, consider this your reminder that you can begin again, too.

Until next time… keep becoming the grounded, glowing you. ✨
